Agnes Kay and her husband James were parents to Private James Kay who was reported as missing during the 3rd Battle of Ypres on 22 July 1917. The family made extensive enquiries through the Red Cross and also friends who had military contacts to try to find him. He was subsequently declared to have been killed in action on 22 July 1917.
They were also parents to Agnes, Margaret and Janet Kay
