The building with the hanging gas lamp and pantile roof in East Pier Street is the Douglas Hotel. Across from it is the Market House which was to burn down in 1911. The shops belonged to Jas Dymock & Son grocer and chandler and Walker and Johnston, drapers, clothiers and milliners.
