Subject notes
Victorians favoured swimsuits that covered the body, although boys would swim in canals etc in 'the bare scud' ie without a swimsuit. After World War One swimsuits for both sexes were briefer. The Edwardian period was one of transition, as illustrated here. In the 19th century swimming became valued as a healthy pursuit.
