Description
A group of railway workers pose on the back of a horse drawn cart. Most are in uniform and one has gold braid on his hat. The cart carries the legend "Parcels forwarded to all parts (per) North British Railway Company".

The gold braid probably belongs to the Station Master. The Airdrie to Slamannan railway was extended in 1840 to the Union Canal at Muiravonside where for a few years passengers for Edinburgh switched to canal boats. The line was later extended to Bo'ness.
