View looking east of the east end of the High Street showing pedestrians on the pavement and in the road. The only road traffic is a horse and trap. On the right is the Universal Bar and The Pie Office (a pub).

Streets at this time were more like the pedestrianised High Street of today than busy main roads. Road traffic was light and slow. In 1909, tramlines were laid along this part of the High Street for the Laurieston extension.
