Subject notes
Houses now removed; car park and shopping centre replaces. Inglis was established in 1895. The street has been demolished to make way for a shopping centre. A gate, as in Howgate, was a road out of a medieval burgh. A two-storey house was designed for two families with one living above the other, the stair to the first floor was usually built outside the house, partly to save space. This practice ceased in the 19th century.
