Subject notes
The timber basins were shallow areas where logs imported from Scandinavia could be stored before processing Many were used in the local sawmills but some were formed into rafts and towed through the canal to more distant sawmills.Old Grangemouth was surrounded by water - the River Carron, the Docks, the timber basins and the Harbour. It was also bisected by the canal and canal basin. The town was demolished in the late 1960s and the basins and harbour were infilled.
