Letter from Sam[ue]l Garbett, Birmingham to William Cadell Junior, Carron, North Britain mentioning that Mathews [ furnace keeper at Carron ] has told him that English spades, shovels and shafts and other common goods are much better finished than those made at Carron and that the working environment is much neater there, also mentioning that they should support Ferreday who is struggling to keep his men working at low wages while the colliers and labourers 'endeavor at his ruin', also mentioning the plan to ' throw water into the pools by Stenhouse water'.
