Description
The royal train is passing over the Forth and Clyde Canal by the swing bridge at Tophill, Camelon. A locomotive is standing on an adjacent track, next to a signal box. In the foreground is lock 9 and the lock-keepers' cottages.

"Not the Royal Train - it is a Caledonian Railway Branchline train from Larbert to Grangemouth passing over the swing bridge at Camelon on the Forth and Clyde Canal. Tall tower is hydratic accumulator for operation of the bridge from the signal box. Locomotive is Caledonian 171 Class with 45 coaches. Possibly around 1910" - Dec 2018 Jim Summers

The North British Railway Company operated the line and the Caledonian Railway Company owned the canal. The NB and Caley were two of the five Scottish railway companies.
