Subject notes
At this time this part of the village lay mainly to the south of the Falkirk to Linlithgow Road but Zetland Terrace was built where the trees are not long after the photograph was taken. The road was one of two turnpike roads built in the late 18th century between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Although there is almost no traffic to be seen, the road was the main route from Edinburgh to Falkirk, Stirling and the north.
