Subject notes
Built in 1750 for David Stevenson, shipmaster, and his wife Helen Paterson, on the site of an earlier corn mill. Adjacent site used in manufacture of sulphuric acid in the 19th century. Mill sails and machinery removed c 1895. The tower was converted into an observatory, and later in flats. Renovated 1987.
