Allan Meek. David's loan is named after King David the first of Scotland, it was his road and any knights on his business had the right to rest and pasture over night. Most of the land between here and Grangemouth he gifted to Newbattle Abbey. The river was navigable in those days, indeed Mons Meg (or a similar piece) was was landed here on its way to the siege of Dumbarton. The salt pow after Lord Saulton he is named in the original charter granting Livingstone the rights as you say circa 1590 ( see Timothy Pont's survey of the same date) and had to be consulted prior to the construction. For post construction see Generals Roys lowland map both available at the National library of Scotland. The thane of Callander also granted lands to the knights templar in London under Robert De Samford circa 1234 at Dalderse though any deals the thane made were rendered null when his family were replaced. When David's father died this part of Scotland was devastated by the competing heirs to the throne, it was settled when Alexander ruled as King north of the river Carron and his brother David ruled south as earl. When David became king he united Scotland with the aid of his knights and the river at Dalderse became an important landing place for building materials from the continent as the local infra structure was gone.

The street on the right in the foreground is the old Dawson Street. The Salt Pow was formerly the port for Falkirk granted to Livingstone's of Callendar in 1590s. Interesting about the 2 knights. I'd like to know the source for that.

It is indeed now Davids loan, this part of Davids loan lies on the ancient estate of Mungal and has been referred to as Mungalhead road in older references, at Carronside street David's loan then proceeds east through the ancient estate of Abbotshaugh to Abbotshaugh House(site) hard by Carronbank house (site) (Grassom 1817) south of Carronbank is Bainsford burn mouth also known as the Salt Pow /Dalderse Basin. On the loan you pass by the ley pasture on the north which was long ago set aside by the king for the use of two knights and their horses.aka Langlees.
