Subject notes
The ship was probably the seventh order the shipyard had received. The customer, Fry, Miers & Co of London and Pernambuco, Brazil, were importers and exporters known to be active in 1903 and 1913. The ship is probably the Portia or Perdita of 543 tons. They were designed in 1910 for trading in Brazil. They were built to negotiate narrow rivers and had to achieve a certain speed in order to maintain a regular service between ports. The Perdita could maintain 11 knots thanks to a large boiler. Both ships were requisitioned by the Admiralty in WWI.
