Subject notes
Rachel Msumba teaches domestic science and English at Bandawe Girls Secondary School. Her cooking pot is still in regular use and Rachel says it is the best for cooking due to its even heat distribution. It is in perfect condition, kept to a high shine. She cooks everything in it: fish, meat, vegetables, doughnuts and porridge. She regrets that her mother loaned a much larger pot to a friend, who wanted to make and sell doughnuts, but never returned it.
Rachael lives in at the school and when she heard that Brian McNeill was looking for a cooking pot, she sent word to her 19-year-old nephew , Danson, who then made a two day journey of more than 200 miles, by boat across Lake Malawi but mainly on foot, to bring the pot to the school.
