Description
A women is sitting holding carding combs. Another sits at a spinning wheel. Her right foot is on the treadle and she is teasing out the wool with her hands. The open fire appears to have no iron grating. A large pot is hanging over the fire and a kettle is sitting in hearth beside it. Tongs and wool lie on the floor.

Carding combs are flat and rectangular with many fine teeth. Wool is placed on them and the combs are drawn across each other, teasing the wool out ready for spinning into thread.
