Subject notes
The paper-making machine was constructed in 1909 by James Bertram & Son Ltd, Edinburgh. Paper has been made in the Carron Valley for over 200 years, attracted initially by the river as a plentiful supply of clear water to wash and treat the fibres, and a source of power.
