mug; Blackness

Description
Large white china mug with gold ring below the rim and above the base; with a painting of Blackness Castle between. Gold band on inside of mug near top. The painting c1830 shows the castle looking north-west when the Forth ran right up to the castle wall. The area in the foreground has since been filled in and is now a grassy lawn. A steamship can be seen on the Forth in the background.The mug may have been especially commissioned by one of the senior officers stationed at the castle. There is a hairline fracture running the complete height of the mug.
