Subject notes
Paper has been made in the Carron Valley for over 200 years, attracted initially by the river as a plentiful supply of clear water to wash and treat the fibres, and as a source of power. Later, rail was used to bring in coal and esparto grass, the grass being imported through Grangemouth from Spain and North Africa.
