Subject notes
The original house dated from the 12th century and was associated with the Livingstons from the late 15th to mid-17th century. It was situated near the two mounds of Dunipace and commanded a natural crossing point on the River Carron.

Built by the Spottiswoods in 1792, the house was the grandest in the area. It was badly damaged by fire in 1897. The house was restored, accommodating St Andrew's boarding school from 1922 to 1931. It was demolished in the late 1940s.
