Description
View of white-face ewes and lambs in open parkland. The trees have lost their leaves. Some lambs are several months old and are probably the previous Spring's but one pair appear only a few weeks old. There is a large house and industrial chimneys in the distance. Unknown location in Falkirk.

Pasture in the Highlands had been degraded by sheep grazing and so sheep were sent to lowland farms for fattening. The Falkirk area had mixed farms, combining arable and animal husbandry, that gave them some resilience to market fluctuations.
