Description
Workers are standing at large electrically-driven buffing machines with spinning grinding wheels. A boy is standing beside a large spanner probably used when replacing the grinding wheel. The men are wearing boiler suits but no other form of protective clothing. Large ventilators are fitted over the machines.

Some projections and imperfections had to be removed from new castings. The coarser imperfections might be removed in a tumbling barrel. The dressing shop was where castings were finished, by polishing them on the spinning grindstone of a buffing machine.
