The jetty was built in the Eastern Channel of the docks. The use of Middle East oil was investigated at Uphall Refinery, West Lothian, using crude oil piped from Grangemouth. In 1924 Scottish Oils Ltd opened a new refinery at Grangemouth specifically designed to refine Middle East crude.
