The Alk was a chemical tanker of 5250 tons built at Grangemouth for Norwegian owners. She was launched 27th March 1971 and was the biggest ship to be built by the Grangemouth Dockyard Co. The crew consisted of 10 officers and 17 crewmen. The Kerse was a coal-fired tug.
