Subject notes
In 1919 the remaining West Lothian shale oil companies came together under a common management company, Scottish Oils, headquartered at Uphall. Scottish Oils was a subsidiary of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. The use of Middle East oil was investigated at Uphall Refinery using crude oil piped from Grangemouth. In 1924 the company opened a new refinery at Grangemouth specifically designed to refine Middle East crude.
