Description
Mr Henderson, the lock-keeper is operating the top paddle on a lock on the Forth and Clyde Canal. The spike was used on the Forth and Clyde and possibly the union canal. English canals used a rotating handle called a windlass which is what the refurbished lowland Scottish canal now use.
