Subject notes
The building was originally Skaithmuir Mill. It was L-shaped, the east-west part dating from about 1700. Grooves on the gable indicated the water wheel had a diameter of over 5m. The first mention of a mill on the site is dated 20 November 1588. It was a corn mill. The north-south wing shown was probably built in the early 19th century as a barley store. By the late 19th century the buildings were used as a forge. The business later specialised in general smiddy work, including shoeing horses. Although listed, it was demolished in 1988.
