A woman poses in the garden wearing a dress influenced by the S curve fashion, achieved by the use of a corset which made the waist tight and pushed the bust forward. The sleeves are very wide but gathered at the upper arm and below the elbow. She is the photographer's sister.

The hat is wide brimmed and ornate. The skirt is ankle length. However, Edwardian fashions were more practical than those of the Victorians, to accommodate more active lifestyles. The process of simplification was accelerated by the First World War.
