Description
Saddle pistol with walnut stock stamped by the East India Company. Parts missing. Made by Daniel Moore, London, working from 1758. Used for collecting Grangemouth wages at Linlithgow by horseback in the early 18th century. Such pistols were made under contract for the East India Company and sold to the Government around 1794 when the country was short of arms at the beginning of the Napoleonic Wars.
