Description
Commemorative Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal issued to celebrate the Queen's coronation on 2 June 1953.The obverse shows a crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right in an ermine cloak wearing the collar of the Garter and Badge of the Bath. The reverse shows the Royal Cypher "EIR" with a large crown over it. Around the edge is "QUEEN ELIZABETH II CROWNED 2ND JUNE 1953". It has a red ribbon with two dark Blue stripes in the centre.
The medal was designed by Cecil Thomas and were given as a souvenir from the Queen to members of the Royal Family and selected officers of stat, members of the Royal Household, government officials, mayors, public servants, local government officials, members of the navy, army, air force and police in Britain, its colonies and Dominions.
