Description
Four day flannels. "Long clothes" for baby up to a few months old. Made from flannel, ecru coloured and wrap over style. Leaf embroidery in bottom right-hand corner of skirt when worn. Garment consists of a rectangle of flannel, wrapped around the baby with overlap at the front. Extra panel sewn in to the centre top which is at the back when worn, thus garment is double thickness both back and front above the waist. The top edge is scooped out for armholes. Two buttonholes in top edge of overlap fasten on to two buttons on the top edge at the other end. Shoulder straps, sewn on to top edge of central portion, have buttonholes in ends which also fasten on to the same buttons. Silk tape across interior of waist on central portion. Ribbons for tying stitched to two outside edges of rectangle at waist level, the longer one passes through a hole in the waist at the inside edge of the overlap then back across the front outside to tie to the shortest one. Satin stitch stem and leaf embroidery in bottom right hand corner of the skirt when worn. Three rows of feather stitch embroidery along the top edge on either side of the central double panel. ie. along the front and overlap when worn. Shirt probably extended to a few inches past the baby;s feet use for a child up to a few months old. Same fabric and decoration as blanket 1975-038-077.
