Description
Oval copper alloy badge engraved "ARMED/ 1798/ ASSOCIATION". Slightly domed with two button lugs and one loop on the back. Also described as a sword belt plate for the militia.

In 1798 the Defence of he Realm Act allowed for the raising of "Armed Associations" raised by local subscription with local gentry or business people providing much of he capital needed. The armed associations were set up for local defence.
