Description
Cotton non-reversible Paisley shawl. Green, red, blue and old gold colours on a black base. Two deep bands and narrower edges patterned around a black square. Black fringes on narrow ends only. Circa 1870.
Paisley shawls, were usually folded in half when worn, but there was various folding techniques. They are big because they were worn instead of coats as the crinolines the women were wearing were so large, a shawl was the only thing that could cover them.
