Description
Cotton rectangular Paisley shawl, classic design in muted tones of orange, green, pink, blue, red, black and gold. Border of stronger colour designs - colours include black, pink turquoise and old gold. Non reversible. Circa 1870.
Paisley shawls, were usually folded in half when worn, but there was various folding techniques. They are big because they were worn instead of coats as the crinolines the women were wearing were so large, a shawl was the only thing that could cover them.
