Description
One guinea note issued by the Falkirk Union Bank. The obverse is decorated in black ink with thistles, roses and shamrocks entwined. The note is dated and numbered by hand and has two signatures. Printed on the obverse is "ONE GUINEA TRIA JUNCTA IN UND G PARON FERPIT KIRKWOOD (&) SONS NO. 000,4521/385 FALKIRK 16TH MAY 1803 THE FALKIRK UNION BANK PROMISE TO PAY WM. A. LIDDELLE OR THE BEARER ON DEMAND ONE GUINEA AT THEIR OFFICE HERE NO. 0004521/385 BY ORDER OF THE COMPANY JOHN SMITH CASHIERENTS PR MICHAEL MCGINTY (signature). Watermark is a decorated square panel containing a triangle with "FALKIRK UNION BANK" on the sides of the triangle.
It was designed by G Paton and printed on wove paper from a copper plate engraved by Kirkwood and Sons.
