Description
Pound note issued by the Falkirk Union Bank. It is decorated with black ink and has an image on the obverse of thistles, roses and shamrock entwined, with an image of a lady standing at a harbour with two sail boats in the background and a thistle plant on the bank and hills in the background. Printed on the obverse is "ONE L1./ Engraved by/ Kirkwood & Sons Edinburgh/ POUND FALKIRK,/ Sterling [28 Nov.] 181[4]/ No. [52//170] The Falkirk Union Bank/ promise to pay [Wm Gentles] or the bearer/ on demand Twenty Shillings Sterling/ At their Office here/ No. [52//170]/ By order of the Company./ [James Brown] Cashier/ Entd. pr [Will Horn]/ R. Kirkwood Script". On the revenue stamp is written "FOUR PENCE". On the watermark is "FALKIRK UNION BANK". This note was printed on wove paper and from a copper plate engraving.
