Description
Twenty Pound note from the Falkirk Union Bank. Decorated on the obverse in black and red ink with an image of thistles, roses and shamrocks entwined left and small oval picture of a woman standing over thistle and a boat in the background. The watermark is a triangle in a rectangle and the revenue stamp is of a crowned wreath. Note printed from a copper plate engraved by Kirkwood and Son from a design by G Paton. The dividend stamp is in red ink and the number is written by hand. Printed on the obverse is"£20/ TWENTY POUNDS/ No. [11//39] Falkirk [12 Sept. 1814]/ The Falkirk Union Bank/ Promise to pay [Wm Gentles] or the bearer/ on demand Twenty Pounds Sterg at their/ Office here/ No. [11//39]/ By Order of the Company./ [James Horn] Cashier/ Entd. pr [Will Horn]/ G. Paton per. Kirkwood & Sons/ FALKIRK UNION BANK".
Stamped in red ink "Claim, No. [972]/ First Dividend/ PAID."
On the watermark is "FALKIRK UNION BANK" and on the revenue stamp is "ONE SHILLING SIXPENCE".
