Description
Guinea note issued by the Falkirk Union Bank. Decorated with a thistle, rose and shamrock entwined with motto on the obverse. The revenue stamp has an oval trimmed with sprays of laurel and a crown and the watermark is a triangle within a rectangle. "Printed on the obverse is :"One Guinea/ TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO/ G. Paton Scriptit Kirkwood & Sons/ No. [52//886] FALKIRK/ [9 Jany/ 1815]/ The Falkirk Union Bank/ Promise to pay [Wn gentles] or/ The bearer on demand, ONE GUINEA/ At their Office here No. [52//886]/ By Order of the Company/ [James Brown] Cashier./ Entd. pr. [Will. Horn]/ FALKIRK UNION BANK". On the revenue stamp is "FOUR PENCE" and on the watermark is "FALKIRK UNION BANK". Dated and numbered by hand with two signatures. The note is printed on wove paper from a copper plate engraved by Kirkwood and Son from a design by G Paton.
This note has been taped to a glass plate at the corners and a second plate placed over it!!
