Pound note issued by the Falkirk Union Bank. Decorated with a thistle, rose and shamrock entwined with a small picture of a woman standing over a thistle with a ship in the background. The revenue stamp has an crowned plaque and wreath and the watermark is a triangle within a rectangle. Printed on the obverse is "ONE L1./ Engraved by/ Kirkwood & Sons Edinburgh/ POUND FALKIRK,/ Sterling [20 July] 181[5]/ No.[53//292] The Falkirk Union Bank/ promise to pay [Wm gentles] or the bearer/ on demand Twenty Shillings Sterling/ At their Office here No.[53//292]/ By order of the Company./ [James Brown] Cashier./ Entd. pr. [Will. Horn]/ R.Kirkwood Scrpit"
