Description
Pound note issued by the Falkirk Union Bank. Decorated with a thistle, rose and shamrock entwined with a small picture of a woman standing over a thistle with a ship in the background. The revenue stamp is an oval with a crown and stars inside laurels and a circle with a crown on top and emblem inside. The watermark is a triangle within a rectangle. Printed on the obverse is "ONE L1/ Engraved by/ Kirkwood & Sons Edinburgh/ POUND FALKIRK,/ Sterling [20 July] 181[5]/ No.B[55//703] The Falkirk Union Bank/ promise to pay [Wm Gentles] or the bearer/ on demand Twenty Shillings Sterling/ At their office here/ NoB. [55//703]/ By order of the Company./ [James Brown] Cashier./ Entd. pr [Will Horn]/ R. Kirkwood Script.". On the revenue stamp is " PROM Y NOTE FOUR PENCE HON SOIT QUI MAI V PENSE ONE PENNY" and on the watermark is "FALKIRK UNION BANK". On the revenue stamp is "G PROM NOTE FOUR PENCE HON SOIT QUI MAI V PENSE ONE PENNY" and on the watermark is "FALKIRK UNION BANK".
