Description
Five pound note issued by the Falkirk Union Bank. Decorated with a thistle, rose and shamrock entwined with a small picture of a woman standing over a thistle with three ships in the background. The revenue stamp is an a crowned plaque with a wreath and a coat of arms The watermark is a triangle within a rectangle. Printed from a copper plate engraved by Kirkwood and Son from a design by G Paton. Printed on the obverse is "FIVE POUNDS/ FALKIRK [21 Augt/ 1815]/ No. [68//72] The Falkirk Union Bank/ Promise to pay [Wm gentles] or/ The Bearer on demand Five Pounds/ At their Office here No. [68//72]/ By Order of the Company/ [James Brown] Cashie/ Entd. pr. [Will. Horn]/ G. Paton fer. Kirkwood & Sons/ FALKIRK UNION BANK". Note that the "r" at the end of cashier is omitted. On the revenue stamp is " E 1804 ONE SHILLING". On the watermark is "FALKIRK UNION BANK".
