Subject notes
A pottery at Bridgeness was producing red and brown wares with a lead glaze in 1766. By 1795 Bo'ness Pottery employed nearly 40 men, boys and girls. Clay was imported from south-west England and coal was sourced locally from Grange colliery.

Bo'ness Pottery employed 107 in1851 and 149 in 1861. Export markets were established in Canada, India and Australia. Frequently in financial difficulties, Bo'ness Pottery went bankrupt in 1898, but Bridgeness Pottery continued to the 1950s.
