ophicleide

Description
"The 11-key ophicleide is a standard model that could have been made in France or England, more locally is possible but less likely. Since the keys are all axle-mounted I suspect it was made circa 1845-50 and perhaps used for 10-20 years. The nasty paint will not be from its period of use, no musician would perpetrate such a thing. I would guess that the non-standard strap fittings and the paint indicate use as a stage prop at some time."
Donated by Mr Smith, bandmaster of the Camelon Silver Band.
