View of a mercat cross with an octagonal shaft on a stepped base. On the top is a sundial surmounted by an acorn. There are two-storey stone buildings with slate and pantile roofs in the background.

The mercat cross is over 5 metres high. It carries the wild boar insignia and initials of the Elphinstone family and the date 1697.
