Description
Oil painting on canvas of the sailing ship "Nestor". The sloop is shown off Ailsa Craig. The Nestor was one of the Carron Company ships which regularly sailed between Bainsford Basin, Liverpool and Cardiff. The donors grandfather was skipper of this vessel.
Nestor was a sloop of 89 tones bought by the Carron co in 1825 and used until c1850.

Heinrich Reimers (German, 1824-1895) lived and worked as a pilot in Kiel, Germany which suggests the location as Ailsa Craig may be incorrect.
