Description
Fine round walnut and marquetry centre table, c 1850-60. The turned and stem has acanthus leaf carving and scrolled and moulded tripod supports on brass castors. The circular top is centred by an inlaid panel of a tambourine, a quiver, a flambeaux, and flute, surrounded by ribbon-tied flowers and leaves. The radiating panels are inlaid with ribbon-tied musical instruments and music surrounded by flowers and leaves, outlined with inlaid scrolls of leaves, acorns and vines. These occur within an ebonised moulded edge.
The quality of the work is said to be comparable to that of the Blake family (cf tables at Temple Newsham and Alnwick).
