Description
Two turned wooden jars with lids, heavily varnished and painted. Often kept on mantelpieces, this type of varnished wooden vessel came from Russia along with pit props for the coalmines of Central Scotland. The designs are typical of this type of bowl. Known in Russia as Khokhloma ware.
