 Description
The obverse shows King George VI, facing left and signed "PM", the initials of designer Percy Metcalfe below the neck. Around the perimeter is the legend "GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX ET INDIAE IMP:".The reverse shows a lion standing on the body of a double headed monster. The heads are those of an eagle and a serpent, to signify the principal occidental and oriental enemies during the Second World War. It has the talons and scaled tail for a dragon. At the top, just to the right of centre are the years "1939" and "1945" in two lines. The initials "ECRP" of designer Edward Carter Preston are near the rim. The ribbon is red, blue and white.

The War Medal 1939–1945 was a British decoration awarded to all full time service personnel of the Armed Forces wherever their service during the war was rendered. Operational and non-operational service counted provided personnel had completed 28 days service between 3rd September 1939 and the 2nd September 1945.
