The tickets to different destinations and of different types were stored in a lockable cupboard. Different colours and patterns helped distinguish the different types of tickets.

Signature & date
All have serial number on side and have different dates and destinations and alphabetical code. The serial number before the top line is also individual to the location - so probably a destination code, or train code. Other than that they all have "British Railways Board (H)/ THIS TICKET ENTITLES THE HOLDER OF A VALID TICKET TO TRAVEL ON THE DATE AND BY THE TRAIN INDICATED/ TRAIN / This ticket and the rail ticket must be produced for examination or collection on request"
On the ones that have been stamped with a location and date there is text on the bottom stating "SEE OVER" and on the back is stamped "SEATING ON THIS TRAIN IS REGULATED TO ACCOMMODATE EIGHT PASSENGERS TO A COMPARTMENT, AND ALL ARM RESTS MUST BE RAISED"
