medal; "1914 Star"
A four pointed star in bright bronze surmounted by a crown and with two crossed short swords and a laurel wreath. It bears the inscription "AUG/ 1914/ NOV/GV". The reverse is plain and is stamped "618/ R.O.M.Cpl MJR W.BORLAND./ R.H.GDS." The ribbon is red, white and blue, shaded and watered. There is a bar of the same metal as the star with the inscription "5TH AUG.-22ND.NOV.1914" on a frosted ground. This was issued to men who served under fire in France or Belgium between the dates mentioned. It is sometimes called the ''Mons Star'. This is the second medal of 8 on a bar.
