Description
Scroll shaped aluminium plaque with two fixing holes. The punched chevron shaped marks read "1944/ KRIEGSGEFANGENSCHAFT". Made by Fritz Ilx, Fritz was taken as a POW to Indianola in the USA. In 1945 he was transferred to Castlerankine in Denny, and stayed on after his release. He died in Bonnybridge Hospital in 1998.

Fritz was taken as a POW to Indiana, Nebraska in the USA. In 1945 he was transferred to Castlerankine in Denny, and stayed on after his release. He died in Bonnybridge Hospital in 1998. From solicitors letter" .....Fritz Ilx who died on 28th November 1998. Mr Ilx had completely lost touch with his family in Germany, and he did not want any contact with them. Mr Ilx was at Castlerankine prisoner of war camp. From there he did farm work, and continued as a farm worker during his working life. He kept very carefully wartime photographs of himself, his father's letters written mostly in the early 1950s from the Russian zone of Germany and also various official documents about the time during which he was a prisoner of war, including some paper relating to a period he had as a prisoner of war in Nebraska, U.S.A. "
